QR codes by use Hotels
QR codes for hotels: guest directories, Wi-Fi and dining
Guests want three things on arrival: the Wi-Fi, the breakfast hours and how to ask for something. One code in the room can answer all of them and stay current.
Free and static: paste your link, download SVG or PNG, no sign-up, never expires. Want art, a link you can change later and scan counts? Make it an art code.
QR codes for hotels: the facts
- What the code holds
- A link to a guest directory page: Wi-Fi details, dining hours, room service menu, checkout and local tips. For a simple guesthouse, a Wi-Fi code (WIFI:T:WPA;S:name;P:password;;) joins the network directly.
- Print size
- 1 to 1.5 in on a key-card sleeve, 2 in on a desk or nightstand card, 4 to 6 in on lobby and elevator signs.
- Scan distance
- Room cards in hand; lobby signs from 3 to 6 ft.
- What breaks it
- Captive portals. Most hotel Wi-Fi asks guests to log in on a web page after joining; a Wi-Fi code can join the network but cannot fill in that page. Monthly password changes also make printed Wi-Fi codes go stale.
- Good to know
- A dynamic code pointing at a guest page solves both: change the password or the breakfast hours on the page and every room card stays correct.

Questions
Can a QR code connect guests to hotel Wi-Fi?
It can join the network on iPhone and Android, but if your Wi-Fi has a login page (a captive portal), guests still see that page. A guest page code that shows the current details is more reliable.
What should the in-room code open?
A short guest directory: Wi-Fi, dining hours, room service, checkout time, parking and how to reach the front desk.
Can we ask for reviews by QR code?
Yes, at checkout or on the key-card sleeve. Ask every guest, not only the happy ones: Google does not allow choosing who gets asked.
Do the cards need reprinting when the menu or password changes?
Not with a dynamic code. Change the page or the link and every printed card shows the new details.
