QR codes for churches: giving, bulletins and connection cards
Bulletins, pew cards and lobby signs are where a church meets people who are not on the email list yet. A code opens giving, the connection card or this week's notes in one scan.
Free and static: paste your link, download SVG or PNG, no sign-up, never expires. Want art, a link you can change later and scan counts? Make it an art code.
QR codes for churches: the facts
- What the code holds
- A link to online giving, a connection card form, the bulletin, sermon notes or the livestream. A dynamic code in a permanent pew card can open a different page each season.
- Print size
- 1 to 1.25 in in a bulletin, 2 in on a pew card, 6 in or more on a lobby sign.
- Scan distance
- Bulletins and pew cards in hand. A slide on the screen only works for the front rows: from 40 ft back a code would need to be about 4 ft across. Show the short web address with it.
- What breaks it
- Projected codes: the back rows cannot read them. Low lobby light at evening services. Photocopied bulletins: each copy of a copy blurs the code, so print from the original file.
- Good to know
- For giving, the IRS requires a written acknowledgment for any single gift of $250 or more. Most church giving systems send it automatically.
Make it art, tested to scan

Questions
Can people give by scanning a code?
Yes. Point the code at your online giving page. Pages with Apple Pay and Google Pay make it a few taps.
Will a code on the screen work?
Only for people near the front. Put the same code in the bulletin or on pew cards, and show the short address on the slide.
Can a connection card be a QR code?
Yes. Make the card a short form (Google Forms or your church system) and put the code on the pew card. Keep it to name, email or phone and one question.
Can we use one printed code all year?
With a dynamic code, yes: point it at the Easter page in spring and the Christmas services in December.
