- What breaks it
- EAN-8 numbers are issued one by one by GS1 only when a package is too small for EAN-13. In the US, UPC-E is the usual choice.

Should a US brand use EAN-8?
Usually not. US retailers expect UPC-A, or UPC-E for small packages.
What should I type?
The first 7 digits; we add the check digit.
Can I use EAN-8 for internal labels?
You can, but Code 128 is better for internal use: it holds letters too and needs no GS1 number.
