Art QR Codes

QR codes by use Posters

QR codes for posters and window signs

A poster is read from a few steps away, often at an angle, in whatever light the wall gets. Size the code for that distance and it becomes the part people act on.

Free and static: paste your link, download SVG or PNG, no sign-up, never expires. Want art, a link you can change later and scan counts? Make it an art code.

Your code appears here as you type.

QR codes for posters: the facts

What the code holds
A link to the event page, the offer or the sign-up form. A static code prints that address; a dynamic code prints our short link so you can change it after the posters go up.
Print size
3 to 4 in on an 11 x 17 in poster, 4 to 6 in on 18 x 24 in, and 6 to 8 in on a 24 x 36 in poster or a window sign.
Scan distance
People scan posters from 3 to 6 ft. The code should be about a tenth of that distance, so 4 to 7 in.
What breaks it
Glass in front of the poster (reflections), high mounting that forces a steep angle, and codes placed in a corner the reader's hand covers. Put it at eye height, near the call to action.

Print big, still sharp

Exports up to 12 in. The squares are drawn at full resolution, not stretched.

One poster, many campaigns

Re-point the code when the event or offer changes.

Measure the street

Give each location its own code and compare scans.

Make it art, tested to scan

We paint the code into a picture in your colours, then test it with three decoders under 16 print and phone conditions before you can download it.

Your codes outlive your subscription

Cancel and dynamic codes keep pointing at your last link. Read the promise.

Questions

How big should a QR code be on a poster?
For an 18 x 24 in poster read from 3 to 6 ft, 4 to 6 in square. For a 24 x 36 in poster or a window sign, 6 to 8 in.
Where on the poster should the code go?
Near the call to action, at about eye height, with a short line telling people what they get ("Scan for tickets"). Codes in a bottom corner get missed.
Can one poster advertise several events?
With a dynamic code, yes: point it at this month's event now and next month's later, so posters that stay up keep working.
Will it scan behind a shop window?
Usually, if the glass is clean and the code is 6 in or larger. Reflections are the problem: avoid the spot where the sky reflects at midday.
