What happens to your QR codes when you cancel a QR code subscription?
A dynamic QR code does not contain your link. It contains the generator's short link, which forwards to yours. That is what lets you change the destination after printing, and it is also why the generator stays in control of every code you print.
Why codes stop working
Some generators deactivate dynamic codes when a free trial ends or a plan is cancelled. Scanners then land on the generator's own page instead of your menu, listing or shop. Reviews of several large generators describe exactly this, often after thousands of flyers or menus were already printed.
Four things to check before you print
- Read the cancellation terms. Look for what happens to existing codes, not just your account.
- Check for scan caps. Some plans deactivate codes when a yearly scan limit is reached.
- Know whether you need dynamic at all. If the link will never change, a static code prints your link itself and depends on nobody.
- Ask about shutdown. If the company closes, who keeps the redirect running?
Our answer
If you cancel, every code keeps forwarding to the last link you set. Editing and new scan tracking stop; the redirect does not. If we ever close, you get 12 months' notice, a full export and a plain version of every code that points straight at your link.
